A new look for my MSN space

OMG.  Two blogs in one day!  I go two months without writing one…and now I can’t stop myself.  🙂

Haha.  I blame it on the database scripts I’m running (mentioned in the previous blog).  I’d really like to see the succeed before I go home, but one of the Alter Tables takes a very, very long time to run the first time through.

I noticed that Taki and Dennis actually left comments on my previous blog (bless you guys!!), and I’ve been thinking for days about what Dennis said:

"Tony my man, it is nice to see that your life hasn’t changed in the least ;-)"

Wow… That got me to thinking.  And thinking.  And pretty soon I was in a kind of downward spiral of neurotic self-analysis.  Hasn’t my life changed in the least?  Do I really go so far, only to stay exactly where I am?  It occurs to me then, that I always do seem to do absolutely everything in the hardest way possible.  Hrm… definitely something for the blog, I’m sure.  So, I came up with a new by-line for my blog… "it’s not easy being greene"

Haha.  I guess I thought about this on saturday, when I was out shopping for an electric kettle.  You see, I need an electric kettle to boil water, because I STILL don’t have a stove at the new house.  Sigh.  So I’m still preparing all my meals in the microwave, and I just started using an electric wok which my mother lent me on Sunday, and what a difference that has made to my life!

So I’m out buying an electric kettle.  I have an HBC gift certificate from the Bay, so I walk down there.  It’s one of the first really beautiful days of the year, so I enjoy the walk.  I found one kettle there that I love… but I would be ashamed to ever tell anyone how much I paid for it.  I think… this gift certifcate is also good at Zellers.  Maybe I’ll walk down there and see what they have.  I figured Zeller’s would have very much the same things, but the cheaper Brand names.  And they did.  They had one that was half the price…. But I didn’t really like it.  Who knows why.  So I think… hmn… Walmart isn’t too far a walk away, I might as well check it out.  I check out Walmart, and they have a kettle nearly identical to the one at the bay, about 15 dollars cheaper than the Bay one, but now I’ve been thinking of that kettle at the Bay almost all afternoon as I’m out walking, so by then I’ve pretty much decided that’s the one I want, cost be damned (and I just won’t ever tell anyone how much I paid for it). 

So, I end up walking all the way across town, back to the Bay, and get there just minutes in time before they close.  I buy the first kettle that I really liked, and pay for it with my gift card.  I figured there was maybe $50 or so on the card, so I give it to the cashier and wait for her to tell me how much more i owe her. 

"Thanks." She says.

I wait a minute, awkwardly.  "Uh, so how much do I owe you?"

"Nothing."

Great, so the gift card must have been worth a lot more than I expected (cause the kettle was a lot more than $50)

"Oh… So how much do I get back?"

"Nothing."

Now I’m really confused.

"The card’s worth the cost of the purchase."

I almost get into a fight with the poor cashier, uttering something about "that’s almost statistically impossible!!!", but then I just let it drop and chalk it up to one more of those Twilight Zone moments that normal people just don’t make a big deal over.

So 5 hours after I left the house, I come home with the same electric kettle that I first set my eyes on, and it didn’t cost me a dime because that’s exactly what the value of my gift card was for, and all that worry about price and whatnot was just dumb.

What can I say? 

it’s not easy being greene.

And my script still hasn’t finished running… so it’s time I pack it up and go home, and hope that first thing tomorrow I get to see a BUILD SUCCESS message.
